How does the mouth tape work?
OMG Mouth Tape seals your lips so you breathe through your nose which encourages more restful and peaceful sleep. It is comfortable to wear, you'll barely notice it's on your mouth. Apply the mouth tape to clean, dry skin and avoid touching the adhesive surface.
To apply:
- Bend the mouth tape slightly in the middle to snap open the backing and then easily peel the backing liner from the middle
- Rest your closed lips in a comfortable position and then position the tape in the centre of your lips
- Gently press the tape over your lips and smooth it out with your fingers
Please note: it is CPAP friendly.
To remove:
- It is designed for overnight use. Remove it in the morning and discard.
- Crafted for easy and pain free removal, leaving no residue like some other tapes.
For storage:
- Store OMG Mouth Tape in a cool, dry location, away from direct sunlight and moisture, to maintain adhesive effectiveness and ensure optimal performance.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets. Swallowing or inhaling the strip could present choking hazards or other serious risks.
How is this mouth tape different to others out there?
Unlike other mouth tapes and surgical tapes, OMG Mouth Tape:
- Doesn't smell - designed to be free of odors, ensuring nothing interferes with your restful sleep
- Holds strong - early on in our journey we tried so many tapes, lots of them would end up half off, on our cheek or on our pyjamas as the tape would fall off mid sleep
- Is soft, comfortable and breathable - many other tapes are plastic, not breathable and uncomfortable
- Covers the whole mouth - our mouth tape design is the most effective tape for ensuring the mouth stays closed which promotes proper nasal breathing. It has been tested by chronic mouth breathers and the tape is super effective. Some other tapes on the market go around your mouth, cross over your mouth or have a vent in the middle of the tape which all allow you to breathe through your mouth which defeats the purpose and do not promote proper nasal breathing. We have tested all designs and got the best results with our ohmygood™ design which covers the whole mouth
I've never mouth taped before. Any tips for my first time?
It is completely normal to feel that way, we started there too. If you are hesitant and have never mouth taped before, you can practice first by taping your mouth during the day (e.g. while watching TV or working at a desk) to get used to nasal breathing.
If you have been mouth breathing for years, it may feel unnatural to have your mouth closed. Maybe the first night you'll only want it on for an hour, the 2nd night maybe a few hours but by the 3rd night you should feel more empowered and comfortable to leave it on for a full night. Once you feel the benefits of a full night's mouth taping experience, you won't want to live without your OMG mouth tape.
An example from the book 'Breath' By James Nestor
Nestor recounts meeting with Dr Ann Kearney of speech-language pathology at the Stanford Voice and Swallowing Center. She spent years as a mouth breather due to chronic congestion, her nasal cavities were blocked with tissue and she was advised that the only way to open her nose was through surgery or medications but she tried mouth taping instead:
- 1st night: lasted 5 mins before she ripped it off
- 2nd night: able to tolerate it for 10 mins
- Couple days later: slept through the night, started discovering some benefits
- Within 6 weeks: her nose opened up allowing her to experience countless benefits of mouth taping
I'm hesitant. Is it safe?
OMG Mouth Tape is typically safe for most people. Your body was designed to breathe through your nose.
Mouth taping might seem intimidating, and you might worry about suffocation. However, there have been no reported incidents of this happening. Consider this: research has connected sleep apnea to serious health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic fatigue, stroke, and heart attack. So you decide. Would you prefer to try a breathable tape that promotes nasal breathing, or risk the potential health consequences of developing sleep apnea?
Is this for children?
No it is designed for adult use and is not suitable for children.
I have some health concerns, is this for me?
Please do not use mouth tape if you have a breathing disorder, heart condition, obstructive sleep apnea, very low blood pressure, severely cracked lips, sunburnt, irritated or non-intact skin around your mouth, history of vomiting, adhesive-related sensitivity or allergy, if you have a cold, sinus or ear infection, after consuming alcohol, drugs or sedatives, or if you cannot remove the mouth tape yourself.
If you have any health concerns or are pregnant, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional.
How long does it take to feel the difference?
Everyone has a unique journey. Here is an example of what many customers report:
- Night 3: Snoring reduced & disturbed sleep patterns reduced
- Week 1: More restful sleep & improvements in oral health
- Week 2: Waking up feeling refreshed & good
- Week 3: Enhanced mental health e.g. less anxiety, more clarity
- Month 1: Improved immunity
- Month 2+: Enhanced facial structure, more defined jawline
Book: Breath By James Nestor Nestor wrote a bestselling book, to recount a daring experiment at Stanford University Medical Center where he allowed scientists to plug his nose so he breathed exclusively through his mouth for 10 days to see what would happen. He developed obstructive sleep apnea, loud snoring, high blood pressure, pulse and heart rate shot up, dangerously low blood oxygen levels, causing brain fog.
When Nestor switched back to breathing through his nose and used mouth tape, he quickly reversed these adverse effects.
e.g. In 3 nights, he went from snoring 4 hours to only 10 mins
